Thereafter, the great demon Hiraṇyakaśipu, who was extremely angry, swiftly attacked Nṛsiṁhadeva with his club and began to beat Him. Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva, however, captured the great demon, along with his club, just as Garuḍa might capture a great snake.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Thereafter, the great demon angrily approached Nṛsiṁhadeva and struck him with his club using great force. Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva, who holds a club, captured the great demon along with his club, just as Garuḍa captures a great snake. Then, separating himself from the effulgence, he came before that form and stuck it with his club.
The demon attacks again with his club; Nṛsiṁha captures him as Garuḍa captures a snake. The Lord allows the demonstration of demonic effort, then ends it on His own terms. Resistance is permitted up to the moment it is concluded.
Reflection Questions
  • Where are you exhausting yourself in resistance the Lord is patiently allowing?
  • What might 'being caught' by grace look like for you right now?
