A vānaprastha should prepare cakes to be offered in sacrifice from fruits and grains grown naturally in the forest. When he obtains some new grains, he should give up his old stock of grains.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
A vānaprastha should offer cakes and caru from what is grown at that time in the forest. When he obtains some new grains, he should give up his old stock of grains. He should offer (nirvapet) cakes made of wild rice or other items from the forest (vanyaiḥ), provided at that time.
Cakes from forest fruit and grain are prepared for sacrifice; when new grains come, the old are given up. Don't hoard; let new offerings replace old supplies. Sacrifice is renewed, never stored.
Reflection Questions
  • What 'old grain' are you hoarding instead of giving up as new arrives?
  • Where could a regular 'replacement' rhythm keep your offerings fresh?
