From the very beginning of his childhood, when he could not even speak properly, Śiśupāla, the most sinful son of Damaghoṣa, began blaspheming the Lord, and he continued to be envious of Śrī Kṛṣṇa until death. Similarly, his brother Dantavakra continued the same habits.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
From of his childhood, when he could not even speak properly, up until now, evil Śiśupāla, the son of Damaghoṣa, was envious of Kṛṣṇa. Kala-bhācanāt means “from when he could only a few soft words as a baby.”
Śiśupāla and Dantavakra blasphemed Kṛṣṇa from childhood until death — relentless, lifelong opposition. Yet this constant remembrance, even in enmity, became the engine of their liberation. The mind that never lets go of God, in any mood, is on a powerful trajectory.
Reflection Questions
  • What does your mind cling to lifelong — and what would happen if it clung to God instead?
  • Can you transform a persistent obsession in your life into a doorway for remembrance?
