The entire body of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Vāsudeva, is decorated. He wears a valuable jeweled helmet, necklaces and bracelets, His neck is adorned with the Kaustubha jewel, and He is dressed in yellow silk garments.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
He is ornamented with a crown, earrings, arm bands and bracelets. He has Kaustubha jewel around his neck and wears yellow silk cloth. His neck has the Kaustubha jewel.
Helmet, necklaces, bracelets, Kaustubha, yellow silk — Vāsudeva is fully decorated. The divine reality is not minimalist; it is gloriously, particularly adorned, and that detail is part of devotion.
Reflection Questions
  • Where has my austerity slipped into a starvation of beauty that the tradition does not actually prescribe?
  • Which detail of the Lord's form most attracts me, and what does that attraction reveal?
