There are mango trees, priyāla, madhuka and iṅguda. Besides these there are other trees, like thin bamboos, kīcaka and varieties of other bamboo trees, all decorating the tract of Kailāsa Hill.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Kailāsa is decorated with date trees, hog plum, mango, priyāla, madhuka, iṅguda, hollow bamboos and solid bamboos. Veṇu is bamboo which is not hollow, and kīcaka is bamboo which is hollow.
Mango, priyāla, bamboo — even the bending, breakable trees adorn the hill. Strength alone doesn't make a place sacred; flexibility and yielding have their own dignity.
Reflection Questions
  • Where am I admiring only rigid strength and missing the dignity of bamboo-like yielding?
  • Which area of my life is asking me to bend rather than break?
