The wife of Aṅga, Sunīthā, gave birth to a son named Vena, who was very crooked. The saintly King Aṅga was very disappointed with Vena’s bad character, and he left home and kingdom and went out to the forest.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
The wife of Aṅga, Sunīthā, gave birth to a fearful son named Vena. The saintly King Aṅga, disgusted with Vena's bad character, left home.
Aṅga's wife Sunīthā bore Vena, who was crooked; saintly Aṅga, disappointed, left for the forest. Even a saintly father can produce a difficult child; lineage doesn't guarantee character.
Reflection Questions
  • Where am I blaming myself for someone else's crooked turn that didn't actually come from my parenting?
  • When does walking away from one's house become spiritually appropriate, and when is it escape?
