Viśravā had two wives. The first wife was Iḍaviḍā, from whom Kuvera, the master of all Yakṣas, was born, and the next wife was named Keśinī, from whom three sons were born — Rāvaṇa, Kumbhakarṇa and Vibhīṣaṇa.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
The son of Viśravā’s wife Iḍaviḍā, was Kuvera, the master of all Yakṣas. Another wife Keśinī, has sons named Rāvaṇa, Kumbhakarṇa and Vibhīṣaṇa. Viśvravā bore a son Kuvera in his wife Iḍaviḍā. The other wife was Keśinī.
Viśravā's two wives produced wildly opposite sons — Kuvera (devotee, lord of wealth) and Rāvaṇa (demon). Same father, different mothers, different consciousness. Whom you partner with shapes what you produce.
Reflection Questions
  • Whom am I partnering with in life, and what consciousness are we producing?
  • Where am I underestimating the influence of close company?
