Thereafter, the two eyes of the gigantic form of the Lord were separately manifested. The sun, the director of light, entered them with the partial representation of eyesight, and thus the living entities can have vision of forms.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
When the gross eye balls of the universal form became differentiated, the presiding deity, the sun, entered along with his portion the subtle sense organ called the eye. From the eye, the sense object called form appeared. Tvasṭā is the sun.
Sight depends on the sun's representative entering the Lord's eyes. The vision we take for granted is a partial extension of solar light through divine arrangement. Without this support, the eye would be a useless lump.
Reflection Questions
  • How does it change my looking to know my eyes work only because of the sun's representative?
  • What sights deserve attention if vision itself is borrowed from a higher source?
