When the Lord saw the mace flying toward Him, He stood firmly where He was and caught it with the same ease as Garuḍa, the king of birds, would seize a serpent.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Seeing the enemy’s club approaching, the Lord playfully caught as it arrived, just as Garuḍa catches a female snake. Tām refers to the club.
The Lord stands firmly and catches the flying mace as easily as Garuḍa catches a serpent. The Lord doesn't dodge; He receives. There is a steadiness available to us when we ground in Him.
Reflection Questions
  • What 'flying mace' could I receive with steadiness instead of dodging?
  • What would standing firmly feel like in the situations where I currently flinch?
