O brāhmaṇa, during the seventh reign of Manu, the current age, Lord Indra came to know of Mārkaṇḍeya’s austerities and became fearful of his growing mystic potency. Thus he tried to impede the sage’s penance.

Translation
O brāhmaṇa, during the reign of the seventh Manu, the current age, Indra came to know of Mārkaṇḍeya's austerities, and being fearful, he began to obstruct the sage's penance.
Indra became fearful that by his austerity he would take Indra’s post.
Personal Guidance
In the seventh reign of Manu — our current age — Indra notices Markandeya's growing power and becomes fearful. Real spiritual progress draws attention from heaven, sometimes friendly, sometimes anxious. Sincerity gets noticed.
Reflection Questions
- Am I willing to be 'noticed' for my sincerity, including by powers that may push back?
- What helps me proceed despite that pushback?
