Kṛta, the disciple of Hiraṇyanābha, spoke twenty-four saṁhitās to his own disciples, and the remaining collections were passed down by the self-realized sage Āvantya.

Thus end the purports of the humble servants of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda to the Twelfth Canto, Sixth Chapter, of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, entitled “Mahārāja Parīkṣit Passes Away.”

Translation
Kṛta, the disciple of Hiraṇyanābha, spoke twenty four saṁhitās to his own disciples, and the remaining collections were passed down by the self-realized sage Āvantya. Another disciple of Hiraṇyanābha was Kṛta. Āvantya taught other famous branches of the Sāma Veda to his disciples. Thus ends the commentary on the Sixth Chapter of the Twelfth Canto of the Bhāgavatam for the pleasure of the devotees, in accordance with the previous ācāryas. Chapter Seven Characteristics of Purāṇas 12.7: The Purāṇic Literatures 7. The Purāṇic Literatures 12.7 Summary In this chapter Śrī Sūta Gosvāmī describes the expansion of the branches of the Atharva Veda, enumerates the compilers of the Purāṇas and explains the characteristics of a Purāṇa. He then lists the eighteen major Purāṇas and finishes his account by stating that any person who hears about these matters from someone in a proper disciplic succession will acquire spiritual potency.
Krta and the disciples of Hiranyanabha continue the chain. The Bhagavatam patiently names them so that no one is lost. Heaven does not forget the unsung servants of paramparas; we should not either.
Reflection Questions
  • Whose unsung service in my life have I never thanked?
  • What small act today could honor a 'Krta' I know?
