From these countless hundreds of mantras of the Yajur Veda, the powerful sage compiled fifteen new branches of Vedic literature. These became known as the Vājasaneyi-saṁhitā because they were produced from the hairs of the horse’s mane, and they were accepted in disciplic succession by the followers of Kāṇva, Mādhyandina and other ṛṣis.

Translation
From these countless hundreds of mantras of the Yajur Veda, the powerful sage made fifteen branches. Kāṇva, Mādhyandina and other sages accepted these mantras known as the Vājasaneyi-saṁhitā because they were produced from the hairs of the horse's mane. He made fifteen branches from the hundreds of Yajur mantras he received. Vājasanyaḥ means “taken from hair of the horses of the sun god.”
From the hundreds of mantras received, Yajnavalkya compiles fifteen new branches — the Vajasaneyi school. Personal disgrace is converted into permanent contribution. The Lord lets a falling become a foundation.
Reflection Questions
  • Could one of my 'falls' be quietly preparing me for a unique contribution?
  • What would it look like to make that contribution rather than only nurse the fall?
