Śrī Mārkaṇḍeya said: O Lord Hari, I take shelter of the soles of Your lotus feet, which bestow fearlessness upon all who surrender to them. Even the great demigods are bewildered by Your illusory energy, which appears to them in the guise of knowledge.
Purport
Conditioned souls are attracted to material sense gratification, and thus they meticulously study the workings of nature. Although they appear to be advancing in scientific knowledge, they become increasingly entangled in their false identification with the material body and therefore increasingly merge into ignorance.

Translation
Mārkaṇḍeya said: O Lord, I take shelter of your lotus feet, which bestow fearlessness upon all who surrender to them. Even the devatās are bewildered by your illusory energy, which appears to them to be real knowledge.
Jñāna-kāśayā means “with an appearance of knowledge where no knowledge exists.” I am the proof of this.
Personal Guidance
Markandeya takes shelter of Hari's lotus feet, which bestow fearlessness on those who surrender. Even great gods take shelter; surrender is not a sign of weakness but of correct relationship.
Reflection Questions
- Where do I confuse surrender with weakness?
- What single fear could I bring under His feet today?
