Important Words
mahā-śīlāḥ—of exalted character
Compound: mahā (great) + śīla (character, conduct). The priests are described not by Vedic credentials but by character — Gauḍīyas note that śīla is bhakti's prerequisite, not its replacement.
brahma-vādinaḥ—expert authorities on the Vedas
Compound: brahma (Veda) + vādin (speaker). Those who speak the Veda. The chapter shows the entire Vedic establishment serving the Vaiṣṇava emperor — śāstra confirming bhakti, not competing with it.
loka-pālāḥ—the rulers of the planets
Compound: loka (world) + pāla (protector). The cosmic governors — Indra, Varuṇa, Yama, Kubera. They came; they took permission; they left. Gauḍīyas read this as the proper hierarchy: even loka-pālas defer to a Nārāyaṇa-para king.
anugāḥ—their followers
Each loka-pāla travels with retinue. The Rājasūya hosted not delegates but entourages. Cosmic society honored Yudhiṣṭhira's house — and yet, the next verses will show one Kuru cousin unable to honor what cosmos did.
Then the highly cultured priests, the great Vedic authorities who had served as sacrificial witnesses, the specially invited kings, the brāhmaṇas, kṣatriyas, vaiśyas, śūdras, demigods, sages, forefathers and mystic spirits, and the chief planetary rulers and their followers — all of them, having been worshiped by King Yudhiṣṭhira, took his permission and departed, O King, each for his own abode.

Translation
Then the highly cultured priests, the great Vedic authorities who had served as sacrificial witnesses, the specially invited kings, the brāhmaṇas, kṣatriyas, vaiśyas, śūdras, demigods, sages, forefathers and mystic spirits, and the chief planetary rulers and their followers—all of them, having been worshiped by King Yudhiṣṭhira, took his permission and departed, O King, each for his own abode.
Commentary
The priests of high family (mahasilah) and others were worshiped by Yudhisthira.

Commentary
After the bath and worship they went home. Mahāśīlāḥ means most worthy of worship. Loka-pālāḥ refers to the chief of the devatās such as Brahmā. In order, starting from the priests, he gave them permission to leave.

Commentary
After the bath and worship they went home. Mahāśīlāḥ means most worthy of worship. Loka-pālāḥ refers to the chief of the devatās such as Brahmā. Loka-pālas are mentioned separately from devatās, though included in them, because they were given special worship. Taking his permission, they departed to their abodes. O king! Śukadeva expresses satisfaction with the conclusion of the sacrifice.
Priests, kings, brāhmaṇas, kṣatriyas, vaiśyas, śūdras, demigods, sages, forefathers, mystics — all honored, all took permission to depart. Even endings are conducted with order and respect.
Reflection Questions
Do I take permission before leaving relationships, or just drift away?
What clean departure is overdue?
Analogy
At the end of a great festival, even the gods rise to leave. Yudhiṣṭhira sends them off as guests, not as superiors — because he has Kṛṣṇa in the same room. When you have the Supreme as company, even devatās are visitors who eventually go home.
