  • hṛṣīkeśam — Lord Kṛṣṇa, master of the senses
Compound: hṛṣīka (senses) + īśa (master). Cf. Gītā opening (1.21). Gauḍīyas: the senses' true master is the One who lent them; agra-pūjā of Hṛṣīkeśa is the senses turning back toward their owner — the seed-definition of bhakti (CC: hṛṣīkeṇa hṛṣīkeśa-sevanam).
  • hārdam — the inner thoughts
From hṛd (heart). The interior mood. Yudhiṣṭhira's reading is not telepathy — it is the sympathetic resonance of one bhakta's heart with another's. Gauḍīyas: hārda is the address-form of all true devotional communication.
  • praṇaya — by love
From pra + √nī (to lead forth). Praṇaya in rasa-śāstra is intimate love that has lost its formality. Yudhiṣṭhira's pūjā does not stay polite; the love leads him beyond ceremony.
  • vihvalaḥ — overwhelmed
From vi + √hval (to stagger). Bhakti-vihvala is a stock Gauḍīya state — the body trembles, the mind cannot hold itself. Yudhiṣṭhira here visibly enters the sāttvika territory the Bhāgavatam will describe in detail later.
The King was delighted to hear this pronouncement of the brāhmaṇas, from which he understood the mood of the entire assembly. Overwhelmed with love, he fully worshiped Lord Kṛṣṇa, the master of the senses.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
The King was delighted to hear this pronouncement of the brāhmaṇas, from which he understood the mood of the entire assembly. Overwhelmed with love, he fully worshiped Lord Kṛṣṇa, the master of the senses.
Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Hearing what the brāhmaṇas or the three upper classes (dvija) said, the king understood the agreement (hārdam) of the others in the assembly. Or he understood the affection (hārdam) for Kṛṣṇa. He was pleased since his desires were fulfilled. Overwhelmed with love, he worshipped Kṛṣṇa completely. Kṛṣṇa had inspired the others as antaryāmī (hṛśikeṣam) in order to please the king. Or even though overcome with prema, he worshipped Kṛṣṇa properly since Kṛṣṇa mercifully made his senses operate properly.

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya

Kṛṣṇa as antaryāmī (hṛśīkeśam) had inspired the dvijas in order to please the king. Or though overcome with prema, he worshipped Kṛṣṇa, because he was able to control his senses by the mercy of Kṛṣṇa (hṛśīkeśam).

Related verses
Yudhiṣṭhira, understanding the assembly's mood, fully worshiped Kṛṣṇa. Public recognition of the Lord, when the moment is right, takes courage and serves the whole community.
Reflection Questions
  • When was the last time I publicly honored Kṛṣṇa, not just privately?
  • Where could a small public act of recognition encourage others?

When a host has guessed his guests' silent wish and acts on it, the room becomes liquid with feeling. Yudhiṣṭhira reads the assembly's hārda — its inner heart — and proceeds to worship Kṛṣṇa, no longer as a sequence-decision but as an outpouring; he is praṇaya-vihvala, overwhelmed by love.
