Important Words
-
sva-rājadhānīm
—
His own capital
Compound: sva (own) + rājadhānī (capital city). Dvārakā as Bhagavān's own city. Gauḍīyas note: Kṛṣṇa's Dvārakā-līlā is aiśvarya-mādhurya — He is its king in a way Vraja never knew Him; both modes are Bhagavān's, the rasa differs.
-
śaṅkha-ānaka-dundubhi-svanaiḥ
—
by the sounds of conches, ānaka and dundubhi drums
Compound: śaṅkha + ānaka (large drum) + dundubhi (kettledrum) + svana (sound). The standard Bhāgavata victory-soundscape. Gauḍīyas note: the same instruments accompany Kṛṣṇa's birth (SB 10.3) — birth and rescue share the auditory signature.
-
ukṣita-mārga-catvarām
—
with sprinkled streets and crossroads
Compound: ukṣita (sprinkled) + mārga (street) + catvara (crossroads). Water-sprinkled paths — the Vedic welcome-protocol. Gauḍīyas read this as the bhakta's ordinary preparation: making clean the road by which Bhagavān walks home.
-
abhyudyataḥ paura-suhṛt-dvijātibhiḥ
—
greeted by townspeople, relatives and brāhmaṇas
Compound: abhyudyata (come forward to greet) + paura (citizens) + suhṛt (kin) + dvijāti (twice-born). The three strata of Dvārakā welcome Him together. Gauḍīyas note: every varṇa's role is included; bhakti is the common ground.
The Lord then entered His capital. The city was lavishly decorated with flags and victory arches, and its avenues and crossways were all sprinkled with water. As conchshells, ānakas and dundubhi drums resounded, the Lord’s relatives, the brāhmaṇas and the general populace all came forward to greet Him respectfully.

Translation

Personal Guidance
The Lord entered Dvārakā amid flags, victory arches, sprinkled streets and the sound of conches and drums, greeted by relatives, brāhmaṇas and citizens. Communal celebration of the Lord's victories binds a society together.
Reflection Questions
- How does my community celebrate Kṛṣṇa's victories — and am I participating fully?
- What small act of public devotion could strengthen the fabric of my devotional family?
Analogy
Like a kingdom whose streets are sprinkled and gateways arched for the king's homecoming, Dvārakā receives Kṛṣṇa with flags, water-sprinkled roads, conches and drums. The procession that began in lament (v. 1) ends in dundubhi-svana — the same family, the same Lord, a different sound.
