  • ajara-amaraḥ — immune to old age and death
Compound: a (not) + jara (aging) + a + mara (death). Bāṇa is granted the Vaikuṇṭha-grade benediction. Gauḍīyas read this as the asura's promotion to nitya-pārṣada status — bhakti, even fourth-generation diluted, finishes in eternal service.
  • pārṣada-mukhyaḥ — principal attendant
Compound: pārṣada (associate, attendant) + mukhya (chief). Bāṇa becomes Śiva's chief pārṣada. Gauḍīyas note: pārṣada is the technical Vaiṣṇava term for the Lord's eternal associate — Kṛṣṇa is giving Bāṇa a Vaikuṇṭha-grade office in Śiva's court.
  • catvāraḥ — four arms
From a thousand to four — Bāṇa is reduced to Vaiṣṇava-iconographic standard. Gauḍīyas read the count change as transformation: thousand arms of asura-multiplication into four arms of Viṣṇu-form discipline.
  • na kutaścit-bhayaḥ — with fear from nowhere
Compound: na kutaścit (from nowhere) + bhaya. Total fearlessness — the Vaiṣṇava gift par excellence. Gauḍīyas connect this to abhayaṁ sattva-saṁśuddhiḥ (Gītā 16.1): Bhagavān's first gift to His own is freedom from fear.
This demon, who still has four arms, will be immune to old age and death, and he will serve as one of your principal attendants. Thus he will have nothing to fear on any account.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
This demon, who still has four arms, will be immune to old age and death, and he will serve as one of your principal attendants. Thus he will have nothing to fear on any account.
Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

The Lord gives mercy. Though he is a demon, according to your request he will be your chief associate. By the Lord’s giving freedom from old age and death, the demon became peaceful even though he was in pain by having his arms cut off. He would have no fear, even of saṁsāra. He would thus be a jīvan-mukta in the future. SB 11.12.5 mentions that by attaining the Lord’s associates, he went to the Lord’s abode. Using na kutaścid-bhayaḥ instead of akutaścid-bhayaḥ is poetic license.

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

With his pride curbed, he attained a spiritual form. He will become your best devotee. Though a demon he will have no fear. With not fear of saṁsāra, he would be a jīvamukta.

Related verses
Bāṇa, retaining four arms, would become immune to old age and death and serve as one of Śiva's chief attendants — nothing to fear. A demon surrendered becomes an eternal associate; humiliation can be the start of a permanent role.
Reflection Questions
  • What humiliation in my past is the entry point of a more dignified role I am still growing into?
  • How does demotion in pride often coincide with promotion in service?

A reformed thief is not killed but stationed as a guard, with badges that mark his new office — four arms in place of a thousand, immunity from age and death, the title of principal pārṣada to his guru. Kṛṣṇa converts an enemy into permanent staff under Śiva.
