  • pradyumnāt — from Pradyumna
Ablative of Pradyumna. The third of the Catur-vyūha (Vāsudeva, Saṅkarṣaṇa, Pradyumna, Aniruddha) begets the fourth — even the family-genealogy mirrors the vyūha-tattva of Pāñcarātra.
  • aniruddhaḥ — Aniruddha
'Unobstructed.' Fourth vyūha of Bhagavān in Pāñcarātra, presiding deity of ahaṅkāra. His name signals he cannot be checked — though the very name will be ironically inverted in SB 10.62 when Bāṇāsura binds him by serpent-nooses.
  • rukmavatyām — in Rukmavatī
Locative of Rukmavatī, daughter of Rukmī. The genealogical loop is exquisite: Kṛṣṇa's son begets a grandson in Rukmī's daughter — the enemy's house yields the heir.
  • rukmiṇaḥ — of Rukmī
Genitive of Rukmī, Rukmiṇī's elder brother. Rukmī's enmity with Kṛṣṇa — set up at Rukmiṇī's elopement in SB 10.54 — frames this entire chapter's second half, ending in his death at Balarāma's club.
  • bhojakaṭe pure — in the city of Bhojakaṭa
Rukmī's new capital, built after his humiliation by Kṛṣṇa. He had vowed never to return to Kuṇḍina without killing Kṛṣṇa — so he founded Bhojakaṭa instead. The wedding's setting in Bhojakaṭa is itself an emblem of unfinished feud.
Dīptimān, Tāmratapta and others were the sons of Lord Kṛṣṇa and Rohiṇī. Lord Kṛṣṇa’s son Pradyumna fathered the greatly powerful Aniruddha in the womb of Rukmavatī, the daughter of Rukmī. O King, this took place while they were living in the city of Bhojakaṭa.

Lord Kṛṣṇa’s eight principal queens are Rukmiṇī, Satyabhāmā, Jāmbavatī, Nāgnajitī, Kālindī, Lakṣmaṇā, Mitravindā and Bhadrā. Having mentioned all their sons, Śukadeva Gosvāmī now refers to the sons of the other 16,100 queens by mentioning the two principal sons of Queen Rohiṇī, the foremost of the remaining queens.

Translation
Dīptimān, Tāmratapta and others were the sons of Lord Kṛṣṇa and Rohiṇī. Lord Kṛṣṇa's son Pradyumna fathered the greatly powerful Aniruddha in the womb of Rukmavatī, the daughter of Rukmī. O King, this took place while they were living in the city of Bhojakaṭa.
Commentary

Having named the sons of the principal eight queens, now the sons of Rohini the chief of the sixteen thousand one hundred queens are named.

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Rohiṇī was the chief of the other sixteen thousand one hundred queens. The word ca means “but” to introduce a new topic, about grandsons. Also Rukmī was an enemy of the Lord. Rukmavatī gave birth to Aniruddha in his city. In astonishment Śukadeva says “O king!” Or Aniruddha was shining (rājan).

Related verses
Rohiṇī, foremost of the remaining queens, bore Dīptimān and Tāmratapta, and Pradyumna fathered Aniruddha through Rukmavatī in Bhojakaṭa. The Lord's pastimes weave generations together, each link essential.
Reflection Questions
  • What links in my own family or community am I called to strengthen?
  • How do I honor the generations before and after me in my daily practice?

Like a single torch passing fire to ten thousand wicks at one festival, Pradyumna — Cupid himself — passes the torch to Aniruddha in the womb of Rukmavatī, lighting the lamp that will burn down Bāṇa's thousand-armed pride in the very next chapter.

Pradyumna marries Rukmavatī at Bhojakaṭa

Rukmavatī was the daughter of Rukmī — the same Rukmī whom Kṛṣṇa had defeated and disfigured at Rukmiṇī's wedding. By a strange working of līlā, Rukmī's daughter chose Pradyumna (Rukmiṇī's son, hence Rukmī's nephew) at her svayaṁvara, and Pradyumna defeated the assembled kings single-handedly to take her (described in this chapter's verses 22–23).

From that union Aniruddha was born in Bhojakaṭa, Rukmī's capital. Aniruddha's own marriage to Rukmī's granddaughter Rocanā occasions the disastrous dice-match later in this chapter — the dynastic seed planted here flowers in tragedy by verse 36.
