  • jñāti - sambandhān — close family members and relations
Jñāti = blood-kin; sambandhi = relations by marriage and bond. The two together exhaust the Sanskrit categories of family. Kṛṣṇa recovers them all — vātsalya extending outward from parents to clan.
  • kaṁsa - bhaya - ākulān — disturbed by fear of Kaṁsa
Three-part compound: Kaṁsa + bhaya (fear) + ākula (agitated). The Yadus had been a refugee people; Kṛṣṇa's first political work is repatriation, not conquest.
  • samāśvāsya — consoling
Sam + ā + √śvas — to breathe deeply, to comfort. Same root as āśvāsana (consolation). Kṛṣṇa does not just resettle bodies; He breathes them back into peace.
  • videśa - āvāsa - karśitān — weary from foreign-land dwelling
Videśa = foreign land; karśita = emaciated, worn out. Exile is named as a kṣaya (wasting). Kṛṣṇa as gṛhasthāśraya restores the missing nourishment.
  • viśva - kṛt — the maker of the universe
He who fashioned all worlds bends to fashion the small one of clan-resettlement. Gauḍīya signature: Bhagavān's macro-power deployed for micro-care, never the reverse.
The Lord then brought all His close family members and other relatives back from the various places to which they had fled in fear of Kaṁsa. He received the Yadus, Vṛṣṇis, Andhakas, Madhus, Dāśārhas, Kukuras and other clans with due honor, and He also consoled them, for they were weary of living in foreign lands. Then Lord Kṛṣṇa, the creator of the universe, resettled them in their homes and gratified them with valuable gifts.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation

Commentary

Two verses are taken together. Kṛṣṇa brought back (this verb should be added) from various directions his direct relatives and those related through marriages (sambandhān). Or he consoled his relatives who had gone (this verb should be understood) to various directions (digbhyaḥ). Bhojas are included in the Yadus. The word ādi indicates groups like the Sātvatas. The Sātvatas and Bhojas mostly lived with Akrūra in Mathurā. Thus there were eight chief groups of Yadus: Yadus, Vṛṣṇis, Andhakas. Madhus, Dāśārhas, Kukuras, Sātvatas and Bhojas. Honouring them by quickly sending vehicles to them, he quickly (sam) brought them. They had become thin by residing in foreign lands, and, giving them abundant wealth, he established their homes by giving houses, utensils, furniture and livelihood. “How was it possible to establish living quarters for so many so quickly?” Kṛṣṇa was creator of the universe. His wealth was unobtainable by Indra. He also brought Rohiṇī from Vraja.

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Many had left Mathurā and had been living in Kuru-pāñcala and other places. Ādikān also indicates the Sātvatas. Bhojas, along with Akrūra, generally followed Kaṁsa and lived in Mathurā. These eight were the chief groups of the Yādavas. They were welcomed, quickly coming and going. They were consoled because they suffered a long time in foreign lands (karśitān). Thus they were given abundant wealth and settled quickly with celebrations, by cleaning the houses, and supplying cloth, ornaments, and furniture. How was it possible to make so many houses to be situated there? As maker of the universe, he supplied all types of wealth not available to even Indra.

Related verses
Kṛṣṇa brings back family members who had fled in fear of Kaṁsa — Yadus, Vṛṣṇis, Andhakas, Madhus, Dāśārhas, Kukuras — honoring and consoling all. After tyranny falls, the work of reunion is detailed and patient.
Reflection Questions
  • Whose 'returns' have not yet been honored in your community after a hard chapter ended?
  • What consoling work remains undone in your circle?

Kṛṣṇa gathering the scattered Yadus, Vṛṣṇis, Andhakas, Madhus, Dāśārhas and Kukuras back from foreign lands is like a master cowherd at dusk calling the cows by name and watching the whole herd return through dust to the home gate. Bhagavān, the viśva-kṛt, gathers His own clan first.
