  • bhagavat - gātra — the limbs of the Supreme Lord
Compound: bhagavat + gātra (limb). The Bhāgavatam never lets the Lord's body shrink into a mere fighting body — even mid-strike, it is named bhagavat-gātra. Gauḍīyas note: His limbs do not become demoniac instruments; the demon is destroyed by His sac-cid-ānanda body.
  • vajra - niṣpeṣa — crushing like a thunderbolt
Compound: vajra (thunderbolt) + niṣpeṣa (grinding, pulverizing). The same vajra-vocabulary that verse 8 used for the wrestlers — now relocated to the Lord's limbs. The reversal is the verse's whole rhetorical action.
  • bhajyamāna — being broken
Passive participle of √bhañj — to break. Phonetically close to bhajyamāna (being-worshiped) from √bhaj. The Bhāgavatam loves these near-homophones: the demon is bhajyamāna in one root while the gopīs are bhajyamānā in the other.
  • glānim — fatigue, exhaustion
Accusative of glāni — decline, weariness. Cf. BG 4.7, yadā yadā hi dharmasya glāniḥ — when dharma's glāni appears, He appears. Here, glāni appears in the demon's body, which is the same thing in another grammar.
The harsh blows from the Supreme Lord’s limbs fell like crushing lightning bolts upon Cāṇūra, breaking every part of his body and causing him more and more pain and fatigue.

Cāṇūra’s elbows, arms, knees and other limbs were all weakening.

— A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
The harsh blows from the Supreme Lord's limbs fell like crushing lightning bolts upon Cāṇūra, breaking every part of his body and causing him more and more pain and fatigue.
Commentary

By hard blows like crushing lightning bolts, Krsna injured the limbs of Canura.

Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

Kṛṣṇa had inconceivable śakti (bhagavān). Because of this, Kṛṣṇa appeared as a thunderbolt among the wrestlers. Camera’s limbs broke because of the cruel crush of thunderbolts.

The harsh blows from the Lord's limbs fall like crushing lightning on Cāṇūra, breaking every part of his body. The Lord's casual strength is, to His enemies, devastating.
Reflection Questions
  • Where might Kṛṣṇa's gentle limb be a lightning bolt for the demon side of you?
  • What part of your life is being broken because it belongs to the wrong side?

The Lord's strikes fall on Cāṇūra like lightning bolts on a tree. Verse 8 had named the wrestlers vajra-bodied; now the actual vajra is on the other side. The grammar of hardness has reversed.
