  • yaśodāyāḥ — of Yaśodā
Genitive of Yaśodā. Her name carries vātsalya-rasa intrinsically — the moment Kaṁsa hears it, the network of Vraja becomes legible to him as a target. Even her name has now entered the demon's ear.
  • kanyām — the daughter (was the female child)
The child Kaṁsa dashed against the stone in SB 10.4 — Yogamāyā Herself. Nārada now reveals the substitution Vasudeva and Yaśodā made on that night.
  • rohiṇī - putram — the son of Rohiṇī
Balarāma — Rohiṇī's son by Vasudeva, transferred from Devakī's womb to Rohiṇī's by Yogamāyā (SB 10.2). The whole nativity-secret of Vraja is being declassified in one sūtra-like utterance.
  • vasudevena — by Vasudeva
Nārada names the father. The ān ākadundubhi of the Yadu line is now exposed to Kaṁsa as the smuggler of Bhagavān into the forest. For Gauḍīyas, Vasudeva's quiet, fearful service is itself a paradigm of dāsya.
  • nyastau — (the two) were entrusted
Past participle of ni + √as — to deposit, place down. The verb of safekeeping. Vasudeva did not abandon the boys; he placed them. Gauḍīyas notice this verb's care.
[Nārada told Kaṁsa:] Yaśodā’s child was actually a daughter, and Kṛṣṇa is the son of Devakī. Also, Rāma is the son of Rohiṇī. Out of fear, Vasudeva entrusted Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma to his friend Nanda Mahārāja, and it is these two boys who have killed your men.

Kaṁsa had been led to believe that Kṛṣṇa was the son of Yaśodā and that Devakī’s eighth child had been a daughter. The identity of Devakī’s eighth child was extremely important to Kaṁsa because a prophecy had foretold that her eighth child would kill him. Here Nārada informs the King that the eighth child of Devakī was the formidable Kṛṣṇa, thus implying that the prophecy should be taken very seriously. Having received this information, Kaṁsa obviously will now do everything in his power to kill Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma.

Translation
[Nārada told Kaṁsa:] Yaśodā's child was actually a daughter, and Kṛṣṇa is the son of Devakī. Also, Rāma is the son of Rohiṇī. Out of fear, Vasudeva entrusted Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma to his friend Nanda Mahārāja, and it is these two boys who have killed your men.
Commentary

What did he say to Kamsa? The famous eight child of Devaki, a female, was actually the daughter of Yasoda. Krsna, commonly known as Nanda’s son, was actually the son of Devaki. Balarama, thought to be Nanda’s son, was actually the son of Rohini. "If Krsna and Balarama are Vasudeva’s children, who brought them to Vraja?" "They were brought by Vasudeva."

Commentary

Though he is the son of Rohiṇī, Balarāma was actually in the womb of Devakī first. Nārada explained this. Out of fear, Vasudeva entrusted the children to Nanda. Since he is afraid of you, you should not kill him. Nanda is Vasudeva’s friend (sva-mitre). They have very strong ties of affection, or they are friends (mitre) and relatives (sva). Vai means that it is well known. Since you do not know about this, you are foolish. Nārada spoke in this way to gain Kaṁsa’s trust. They have killed your friends (puruṣāḥ). He makes this statement to testify to the facts he has just related. By indicating the two boys’ great strength, he made Kaṁsa constantly frightened of them.

Nārada tells Kaṁsa the truth — Yaśodā's child was actually a daughter, Kṛṣṇa is Devakī's son, and these are the boys who killed his men. Truth-telling accelerates the wicked toward their fate, even when delivered by a saint.
Reflection Questions
  • Where have you avoided a hard truth that would accelerate a needed reckoning?
  • Can you trust that revealed truth, however painful, is part of Kṛṣṇa's mercy?

Nārada unties the knot Kaṁsa has been holding for eleven years: the child you let go in the dungeon was Yogamāyā's, and the boys in the forest are Devakī's actual sons. The whole demon-strategy collapses in one sentence — and the collapse is itself part of the līlā.
