  • uru - manyavaḥ — endowed with great anger
Compound: uru (large) + manyu (anger). The serpent-species' signature affect. Kāliya is generalizing — not 'I personally am angry' but 'we serpents are.' This is honest diagnosis, not excuse.
  • tvat - māyām — Your illusory energy
Compound: tvat (Your) + māyā (illusion). Kāliya correctly identifies the binding force as Bhagavān's own. Gauḍīya: māyā is His śakti, not an independent power; she binds at His direction and releases at His direction.
  • dustyajām — very hard to give up
From duḥ + √tyaj — hard to abandon. Cf. Gītā 7.14: daivī hy eṣā guṇamayī mama māyā duratyayā. Kāliya recites the Gītā back. Māyā is impassable except for those who surrender to Him.
  • mohitāḥ - svayam — deluded by ourselves
Compound: mohita (deluded) + svayam (by ourselves). Acknowledgement: the delusion happens to us, by us. The wives' theology of nigraha-as-anugraha is now operating in the serpent's own mouth.
O Supreme Personality of Godhead, among all the species within Your material creation, we serpents are by nature always enraged. Being thus deluded by Your illusory energy, which is very difficult to give up, how can we possibly give it up on our own?

Kāliya is here indirectly begging for the Lord’s mercy, realizing that on his own he can never become free from illusion and suffering. Only by surrendering to the Lord and obtaining His mercy can one be released from the painful conditions of material life.

Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
O Supreme Personality of Godhead, among all the species within Your material creation, we serpents are by nature always enraged. Being thus deluded by Your illusory energy, which is very difficult to give up, how can we possibly give it up on our own?
Commentary

"I am very angry by nature (jati), therefore how is it possible for me to give up insurmountable maya on my own?"

Jīva Gosvāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

O supreme lord (Bhagavān)! The idea that one becomes a snake by karma alone is rejected since the Lord is the controller of karma. Therefore I have not committed this offense on my own. Then how can it be given up except by your intervention?

Śrīdhara Svāmī Gauḍīya
Commentary

O supreme lord (Bhagavān)! The idea that one becomes a snake by karma alone is rejected since the Lord is the controller of karma. Or O independent Lord (bhagavān)! Since actions are dependent on you, by your will alone we are can do anything. Thus what can low persons like us say about this? Or O lord whose control cannot be avoided! How can we give up the illusion of being angry, since this illusion is controlled by you? We cannot do it on our own (svayam). If you make us give it up, then it can be given up. “For giving up māyā you should worship me.” But we are bewildered by your māyā. Or we are bewildered by māyā itself (svayam).

Concepts
Maya
'Among species, snakes are always enraged; deluded by Your māyā, how can we possibly give it up on our own?' Asking for help honestly is more powerful than promising self-rescue.
Reflection Questions
  • What addiction or temperament am I still trying to fix solo that needs an honest plea for help?
  • Where would 'I cannot' be a more truthful opening than 'I will'?

Among Your creatures, we serpents are angry by nature, deluded by Your māyā, which is unrelenting. How can we possibly give it up on our own? Kāliya's second speech is the cry of the bound jīva: I am held by Your energy; only You can release me. The Gauḍīya formula: bondage and liberation are both Your gifts.
