Thereafter, the princesses, being attracted by Saubhari Muni, gave up their sisterly relationship and quarreled among themselves, each one of them contending, “This man is just suitable for me, and not for you.” In this way there ensued a great disagreement.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Thereafter, the princesses, being attracted by Saubhari, gave up their sisterly relationship and quarreled among themselves over him, each one of them contending, "This man is just suitable for me, and not for you."
Once sisters, now rivals — the same man is now an object of competition rather than a person. Material enjoyment converts loving relationships into contests, even within families.
Reflection Questions
  • Where in my family or community has a shared object turned us into competitors?
  • What relationship could I de-rivalize today by changing what I am chasing?
