To satisfy the sage Utaṅka, the greatly powerful Kuvalayāśva killed a demon named Dhundhu. He did this with the assistance of his twenty-one thousand sons.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
To satisfy the sage Utaṅka, the powerful Kuvalayāśva killed a demon named Dhundhu with the assistance of his twenty-one thousand sons. With the assistance of his twenty-one thousand sons, he killed the demon.
Kuvalayāśva responds to a sage's distress by mobilizing his entire family in service. Spiritual emergencies are sometimes the occasion for the whole household to act together, not just for individuals to retreat.
Reflection Questions
  • What spiritual cause or service might call on me to mobilize my family, not just my private practice?
  • Whose distress in my circle should I be answering with collective action rather than sympathy alone?
