Having been instructed by the great and learned brāhmaṇa Vasiṣṭha, who discoursed about the Absolute Truth, Mahārāja Ikṣvāku became renounced. By following the principles for a yogī, he certainly achieved the supreme perfection after giving up his material body.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Instituting the instructions give by Vasiṣṭha, Mahārāja Ikṣvāku became renounced and achieved the supreme perfection after giving up his material body. Ikṣvāku, executing the instructions given by Vasiṣṭha who gave knowledge, became detached.
When the teaching is clear, a wise leader does not cling to office — he renounces, follows the path, and attains perfection. Power held too long becomes the very thing that blocks the perfection it was meant to support.
Reflection Questions
  • What position am I holding past its natural season because I am attached to it?
  • What perfection might be waiting on the other side of a graceful stepping-aside?
