Formerly, after conquering the demigods, all the demons had taken shelter in the lower planetary system known as Rasātala and had brought all the wives and daughters of the demigods there also. Mahārāja Bharata, however, rescued all those women, along with their associates, from the clutches of the demons, and he returned them to the demigods.

Translation
Formerly, after conquering the devatās, the demons had taken shelter of Rasātala, taking the women of Svarga with them. Mahārāja Bharata, however, brought them back along with their associates.
The demons after defeating the devatās when to Rasātala, and brought the women of Svarga there. Bharata took the women along with their friends from the demons and brought them back to the devatās in Svarga. Another version has paṇibhiḥ (from the demons) instead of prāṇibhiḥ.
Personal Guidance
Bharata rescues the demigods' wives and daughters from the demons in Rasātala. Recovery of those who have been carried off to the lower regions by demonic forces is a real responsibility of leadership.
Reflection Questions
- Whom in my community has been carried off to a kind of 'Rasātala' — addictions, isolation, despair — and could I help bring them back?
- Where am I treating their condition as their own private problem when it is actually a leadership rescue?
