Translation
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Thereafter, when his son Sudyumna had gone to the forest, Vaivasvata Manu [Śrāddhadeva], desirous of getting more sons, performed austerities on the bank of the Yamunā for one hundred years. In the Second Chapter, Vaivasvata Manu’s dynasty is described briefly. Pṛṣadhra, rejected by his guru, does not give him up, and attains the supreme.
When his son retires, Manu does not slacken but performs hundred-year tapasya by the Yamunā for more pious children. Even after duties shift, the desire to do good only deepens.
Reflection Questions
  • What austerity am I willing to undertake for the good of those who will come after me?
  • Where is age tempting me to coast when the moment actually calls for new tapasya?
