Alarka, the son of Dyumān, reigned over the earth for sixty-six thousand years, my dear King Parīkṣit. No one other than him has reigned over the earth for so long as a young man.

Translation
O King! Alarka, the son of Dyumān, reigned over the earth for sixty-six thousand years. No one other than him has reigned over the earth for so long as a young man.
Personal Guidance
Alarka reigns sixty-six thousand years as a young man — no other has ruled so long in youthful vigor. Some lives are kept astonishingly long for purposes far larger than personal fulfillment.
Reflection Questions
- Am I treating my own lifespan as adequate or scrimping it?
- Where might unusual longevity be granted for a service rather than for enjoyment?
