The King of heaven, Indra, brought a suitable sitting place for the goddess of fortune. All the rivers of sacred water, such as the Ganges and Yamunā, personified themselves, and each of them brought pure water in golden waterpots for mother Lakṣmī, the goddess of fortune.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Indra brought a great astonishing throne for her. All the rivers of sacred water personified brought pure water in golden water pots for Lakṣmī. The word ca indicates that both forms—the form of wealth, and the form dear to Viṣṇu-- were worshipped.
Indra arranged a seat, and the sacred rivers personified themselves to bring water in golden pots. When the Lord's beloved is being honored, all who can serve, serve. Even rivers show up with their best.
Reflection Questions
  • What 'best vessel' do I bring when sacred occasions arise in my life?
  • Where am I a passive observer when I could be an active server?
