My dear gentle wife Bhavānī, when one performs benevolent activities for others, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Hari, is very pleased. And when the Lord is pleased, I am also pleased, along with all other living creatures. Therefore, let me drink this poison, for all the living entities may thus become happy because of me.

Translation
O gentle Bhavānī! When one performs benevolent activities for others, the Supreme Lord is very pleased. And when the Lord is pleased, I am also pleased, along with all other living creatures. Therefore, let me drink this poison. May all the living entities have auspicious existence because of me!
Me means “because of me.” Svastiḥ means “auspicious existence.”

Personal Guidance
When we do benevolent work, Hari is pleased, and when Hari is pleased, Śiva and all beings are pleased. So let me drink this poison. One act of self-sacrifice cascades pleasure through the entire web of being.
Reflection Questions
- What 'poison' is mine to drink for the welfare of others — even if it leaves a mark?
- Am I willing to accept marking for a service that pleases the Lord?
