O lord, the sky is your navel, the air is your breathing, the sun is your eyes, and the water is your semen. You are the shelter of all kinds of living entities, high and low. The god of the moon is your mind, and the upper planetary system is your head.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
O lord! The sky is your navel, the air is your breathing, the sun is your eyes, and the water is your semen. The shelter of all kinds of living entities, high and low is your ahaṅkāra. The god of the moon is your mind, and Svarga is your head. The shelter of all jīvas superior and inferior is your ahaṅkāra (ātmā).
Sky as navel, sun as eyes, moon as mind, upper planets as head. The cosmos is one body. Every living being — high or low — shelters in Him. Nothing in creation is outside this single Person.
Reflection Questions
  • Whom do I treat as 'outside' the Lord's body — and therefore as expendable?
  • How does seeing the cosmos as one body change my relationship to the natural world?
