O Devī, O goddess, I can understand that you want to regain your sons and be together with them to worship Me, after defeating the enemies in battle and retrieving your abode and opulences.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
You desire to be established along with your sons by the wealth regained through victory, after defeating the proud demons in battle. You desire to be firmly situated (upāsitum) with your sons in the kingdom. Or, you desire to worship me along with your sons, but not with complete dedication.
You want to regain your sons, defeat the enemies, retrieve your abode and opulences, and worship Me together. He names her layered desire — including the spiritual goal embedded in the material recovery.
Reflection Questions
  • Whose desire am I naming aloud — and am I including its spiritual layer, or only its material outer?
  • Where does my prayer flatten what is actually a layered hope?
