Translation
Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: When Aditi's sons, the devatās, had thus disappeared from Svarga which was taken by the demons, Aditi began lamenting, as if she had no protector. In the Sixteenth Chapter Aditi reveals her grief for her sons to Kaśyapa and he teaches her the payovrata to pacify her. Naṣṭeṣu means “disappeared.”
With her sons gone and demons occupying their places, Aditi began lamenting as if she had no protector. The mother-grief is real even when her sons are powerful demigods. Position does not exempt one from feeling defenseless.
Reflection Questions
  • Where do I feel 'as if I have no protector' even though many supports exist around me?
  • Whose grief am I overlooking by assuming their high status keeps them from real loss?
