When the demon Jambhāsura saw that his friend Bali had fallen, he appeared before Indra, the enemy, just to serve Bali Mahārāja with friendly behavior.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
When Jambhāsura, the friend of Bali, saw that he had fallen, he appeared before Indra, acting in friendship for an injured friend.
Jambhāsura saw his friend fall and appeared before Indra to serve Bali with friendly behavior. Demonic loyalty also exists. Friendship is a value that crosses moral camps. The Bhāgavatam acknowledges good qualities even in adversaries.
Reflection Questions
  • Whose loyalty to me is real, and whose only appears when I am winning?
  • Where do I underestimate the friendships of those I consider opposed?
