O King Yudhiṣṭhira.
My dear King Yudhiṣṭhira, when all the attempts of the demons to kill Prahlāda Mahārāja were futile, the King of the demons, Hiraṇyakaśipu, being most fearful, began contriving other means to kill him.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
O King Yudhiṣṭhira! When all the attempts failed, the King of the demons, Hiraṇyakaśipu, being most fearful, stubbornly tried other means to kill him.
When all the demons' attempts to kill Prahlāda fail, Hiraṇyakaśipu — now afraid — devises further means. The failure of cruelty often produces fear in the cruel one. Devotion's protection over time can convert a persecutor's confidence into anxiety.
Reflection Questions
  • Where has your persistence under attack quietly unnerved someone who attacked you?
  • How does Prahlāda's example shape your response to long-running hostility?
