When Hiraṇyakaśipu saw that his child had fallen at his feet and was offering obeisances, as an affectionate father he immediately began showering blessings upon the child and embraced him with both arms. A father naturally feels happy to embrace his son, and Hiraṇyakaśipu became very happy in this way.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Welcoming the boy who fell at his feet with blessings, the demon father embraced him for a long time with his arms and felt great happiness.
Seeing his child fall at his feet, Hiraṇyakaśipu showers blessings and embraces him with both arms. The demonic too feel parental love. Hostility and tenderness can live in one body — and both are real even when their object is the same person.
Reflection Questions
  • Whose love for you carries both hostility and tenderness — and how do you receive each?
  • Where do you hold mixed feelings for someone you both love and resist?
