Sometimes I eat a very small quantity and sometimes a great quantity. Sometimes the food is very palatable, and sometimes it is stale. Sometimes prasāda is offered with great respect, and sometimes food is given neglectfully. Sometimes I eat during the day and sometimes at night. Thus I eat what is easily available.

Translation
Sometimes I eat a small quantity and sometimes a great quantity of food. Sometimes the food is very palatable, and sometimes it is stale. Sometimes it has good qualities and sometimes it does not. Sometimes it is brought with respect, and at other times without respect. I eat it somewhere, during the day or the night, whenever it comes.

Personal Guidance
Sometimes I eat little, sometimes much, sometimes tasty, sometimes stale, sometimes respectfully offered, sometimes neglectfully — and sometimes during the day, sometimes at night. Equanimity with what arrives is the practice. The mouth does not dictate the heart.
Reflection Questions
- Where does the quality of your food still control the quality of your mood?
- What practice steadies you in the variability of what life serves?
