who is always very, very dear to the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
Prahlāda Mahārāja, the most dear servitor of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, once went out touring the universe with some of his confidential associates just to study the nature of saintly persons. Thus he arrived at the bank of the Kāverī, where there was a mountain known as Sahya. There he found a great saintly person who was lying on the ground, covered with dirt and dust, but who was deeply spiritually advanced.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Prahlāda Mahārāja, the dear servant of the Lord, once went touring the provinces with some of his ministers to study their nature. On the bank of the Kāverī, on a plateau of the Sahya Mountains, he saw a person lying on the ground, covered with dirt, but having pure, profound spiritual radiance. Sahya-sānuni means “on a plateau of the Sahya Mountains.” He had dust on the limbs of his body (tanū-deśaiḥ).
Prahlāda, the dear servant of the Lord, toured the universe with associates to study the nature of saintly persons. Even great devotees actively study saintly examples. Modeling on saints is itself a practice, not a side activity.
Reflection Questions
  • Whose example are you actively studying, not just admiring from afar?
  • What does 'touring' look like in your life — what saints could you visit?
