Translation
Bravery in battle, being unconquered, fortitude, conquering others, charity, controlling the bodily necessities, forgiveness, friendliness to the brāhmaṇas, joy and truthfulness—these are the symptoms of the kṣatriya.
The kṣatriya's symptoms: influential in battle, unconquerable, patient, challenging, charitable, controlled, forgiving, attached to brahminical nature, always jolly and truthful. Power and brahminical attachment must coexist. Force without devotion becomes tyranny.
Reflection Questions
  • Where do you exercise power without the corresponding brahminical attachment?
  • What jolliness and truthfulness keep your strength from becoming cruel?
