O You who are merciful to the materialistic.
Prahlāda Mahārāja said: O Supreme Lord, because You are so merciful to the fallen souls, I ask You for only one benediction. I know that my father, at the time of his death, had already been purified by Your glance upon him, but because of his ignorance of Your beautiful power and supremacy, he was unnecessarily angry at You, falsely thinking that You were the killer of his brother. Thus he directly blasphemed Your Lordship, the spiritual master of all living beings, and committed heavily sinful activities directed against me, Your devotee. I wish that he be excused for these sinful activities.
Purport
Although Hiraṇyakaśipu was purified as soon as he came in contact with the Lord’s lap and the Lord saw him, Prahlāda Mahārāja still wanted to hear from the Lord’s own mouth that his father had been purified by the Lord’s causeless mercy. Prahlāda Mahārāja offered this prayer to the Lord for the sake of his father. As a Vaiṣṇava son, despite all the inconveniences imposed upon him by his father, he could not forget his father’s affection.

Translation
Prahlāda said: O bestower of blessings! O great Lord! Please grant this boon. My father, his heart filled with anger, out of ignorance of your power and glory, thinking that you killed his brother, criticized you, the guru of all the planets. He thus committed violence to me. May my father be purified, though he has been purified of his great sins, difficult to remove, by your glance! O Lord, affectionate to the wretched!
Previously I prayed at your lotus feet for the deliverance of all people suffering in this world. Now, if you have given such good fortune to me, then I pray also that you free one great sinner. This is expressed in three verses. My father’s heart was contaminated with anger (viddhāmarṣāśayaḥ). Even if he is already purified by your glance, I pray out of humility to hear words of mercy from your mouth.

Personal Guidance
I ask only one benediction: please forgive my father for his sinful actions and blasphemy. The Vaiṣṇava son prays for the demon father. Real love does not stop at injury; it asks mercy precisely for the one who injured you.
Reflection Questions
- For whose forgiveness — someone who genuinely hurt you — could you pray this week?
- Where could that single prayer reset a family's spiritual trajectory?
