One must then chant the mantra of six syllables [oṁ viṣṇave namaḥ]. One should place the syllable om on his heart, the syllable vi on the top of his head, the syllable sa between his eyebrows, the syllable na on his tuft of hair [śikhā], and the syllable ve between his eyes. The chanter of the mantra should then place the syllable na on all the joints of his body and meditate on the syllable ma as being a weapon. He should thus become the perfect personification of the mantra. Thereafter, adding visarga to the final syllable ma he should chant the mantra maḥ astrāya phaṭ in all directions, beginning from the east. In this way, all directions will be bound by the protective armor of the mantra.

Translation
The intelligent person should place oṁ on the heart, the syllable vi on top of the head, the syllable ṣa between the brows, the syllable ṇa on the śikhā, the syllable ve on the two eyes, the syllable na on all the joints and thinking of ma as a weapon, becoming the very form of the mantra, he should then place the words maḥ astrāya phaṭ in all directions. The mantra is oṁ viṣṇave namaḥ.
One should then perform nyāsa using another mantra for the heart and other limbs. Meditating on the syllable ma as a weapon, one should place maḥ astrāya phaṭ in the eight directions as a dik-bandhana (binding the directions).
Personal Guidance
Chant the six-syllable mantra (oṁ viṣṇave namaḥ), placing each syllable on the heart, head, brow, tuft, between the eyes and on all sides. The whole field of the body is mapped to the Lord.
Reflection Questions
- Where on my body do I least expect the Lord to dwell, and what would it mean to invite Him there?
- Could I learn one nyāsa practice and let it shape my mornings?
