While Indra, the King of the demigods, thought in this way and repented in his own assembly, Bṛhaspati, the most powerful spiritual master, understood his mind. Thus he became invisible to Indra and left home, for Bṛhaspati was spiritually more powerful than King Indra.

Translation
While Indra was thinking in this way, Bṛhaspati, disregarding this, left his house and disappeared by his great power.
Not caring of Indra who was thinking in this way, Bṛhaspati became invisible by his great power (adhyātma-māyayā). Adhi stands for adhika.

Personal Guidance
Bṛhaspati read Indra's repenting mind and became invisible, leaving home. Even sincere repentance cannot always reverse the consequences of insult; the guru may still need to go.
Reflection Questions
- Am I assuming that any apology will undo any harm?
- What loss am I being asked to grieve even after repenting?
