Was this a dream I saw, or was it reality? I saw fearsome men with ropes in their hands coming to arrest me and drag me away. Where have they gone?

Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura
Gauḍīya
Translation
Was this a dream? Or did I really see those astonishing persons? Where have the persons who were dragging me away with ropes now gone?
Personal Guidance
Ajāmila wonders whether the terrifying Yamadūtas were dream or reality. The boundary between this world and the next is thinner than we assume; what we glimpse near death is not fiction.
Reflection Questions
- Do I take seriously what the dying see, or dismiss it as hallucination?
- How would my day shift if I treated death's threshold as fully real?
