My Lord, You are the master of energy, and therefore You are the Supreme Person. You are sacrifice [yajña] personified. Lakṣmī, the embodiment of spiritual activities, is the original form of worship offered unto You, whereas You are the enjoyer of all sacrifices.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
You are the master of Lakṣmī. You are the Supreme Person. You are all sacrifices personified. Lakṣmī is the secular activity of the sacrifice and the worship performed in meditation, whereas you are the enjoyer of the worship. Ijyā refers to the contemplation of the activities that a man performs in preparation for a sacrifice. Kriyā refers to activities in the sacrifice not restricted to persons initiated into sacrifice
You are master of energy, Supreme Person, yajña personified; Lakṣmī is original worship, You are enjoyer of yajña. The ritual ecology pairs them as worshiper-worshiped within the same act.
Reflection Questions
  • Do I have language for the ritual ecology in which I act?
  • What does it mean to be inside a sacred pairing rather than at its edge?
