Translation
By these witnesses, acts of adharma can be understood, and the cause of punishment is determined. All performs of sin deserve punishment according to the act. The reason for punishment and the victims of punishment are mentioned.
Those whose deviation from prescribed duty is confirmed by these many witnesses become candidates for punishment. Anyone engaged in fruitive activity — pious or impious — is subject to the law of consequence in proportion to their acts.
Reflection Questions
  • Do I take seriously that even 'pious' fruitive activity binds me to future bodies and consequences?
  • Which of my prescribed duties am I currently neglecting in ways that would, in court, be undeniable?
