Translation
O King! While he thus spent up his time in abominable, sinful activities to maintain his family of many sons, eighty-eight years of his life passed.
Time related to age passed. How much time? Eighty years (samāḥ) passed.

Personal Guidance
Eighty-eight years of life slipped by while Ajāmila was absorbed in sinful maintenance of his family. Time does not pause for our reckoning — most of a human life can be spent on what was never essential.
Reflection Questions
- If I add up the hours of my last week, how many went to what truly matters at death?
- What am I assuming I will get around to 'later' that the calendar may not allow?
