The great sage Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: Hereafter I shall describe the dimensions, characteristics and forms of the six islands beginning with the island of Plakṣa.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Śukadeva said: Now I shall describe the dimensions, characteristics and shapes of the six islands beginning with the island of Plakṣa. The Twentieth Chapter describes Plakṣadvīpa and other islands, their varṣas, rivers, mountains and devatās as well as the Lokāloka Mountain.
Śukadeva begins systematic teaching about the six islands. The lesson for us is method: spiritual learning is not a hodge-podge of inspirations but a structured journey. Trust the order in which teachers reveal the map of reality.
Reflection Questions
  • Am I learning spiritual life in a structured way or only collecting fragments?
  • Whose teaching order do I trust enough to follow even when I would prefer to skip ahead?
