whose wings are called Bṛhat and Rathantara.
Lord Nārāyaṇa was seated on the shoulder of Stotra, or Garuḍa, who had big wings. As soon as the Lord appeared, all directions were illuminated, diminishing the luster of Brahmā and the others present.

A description of Nārāyaṇa is given in the following two ślokas.

— A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Viṣṇu, diminishing the effulgence of the devatās by his effulgence which shone in the ten directions, arrived on Garuḍa, whose wings are the Brhād-rathantara verses. Viṣṇu arrived, diminishing the effulgence of Brahmā and others. The winds of Garuḍa were the Bṛhat-rathnantara mantras. Śruti says bṛhadrathantare pakṣau: the wings are the Brhād-rathantara verses.
Nārāyaṇa on Garuḍa illuminates all directions, dimming even Brahmā's luster. The arrival of the supreme presence quietly puts every other 'luminous' personality into proper proportion.
Reflection Questions
  • Whose luster am I overrating in my life because I haven't compared it to the real source?
  • Where would I welcome being dimmed if it meant the Lord were more visible in the room?
