The sage Maitreya said: O mighty-armed Vidura, Lord Śiva, being thus pacified by the words of Lord Brahmā, spoke as follows in answer to Lord Brahmā’s request.
Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura Gauḍīya
Translation
Maitreya said: O Vidura! Pleased by the request made by Brahmā, Śiva, smiling said, “Listen to me.” In the Seventh Chapter, Dakṣa and the priests glorify Śiva, and Viṣṇu appears and becomes satisfied. The sacrifice is completed. Śiva (bhavena) was pleased by Brahma (ajena) who had made his request (anunītena).
Pacified by Brahmā's words, Śiva is ready to respond. Even the angriest heart can shift when met with sincere appeal; pacification isn't surrender, it's making space for the next, better move.
Reflection Questions
  • Who in my life is waiting for the right words from a trusted go-between before they can soften?
  • Where am I refusing to be pacified because I confuse being calmed with being defeated?
