Vīrabhadra then took the head and with great anger threw it into the southern side of the sacrificial fire, offering it as an oblation. In this way the followers of Lord Śiva devastated all the arrangements for sacrifice. After setting fire to the whole arena, they departed for their master’s abode, Kailāsa.

Thus end the Bhaktivedanta purports of the Fourth Canto, Fifth Chapter, of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, entitled “Frustration of the Sacrifice of Dakṣa.”

Translation
Angry Vīrabhadra offered the head in the southern fire. Setting the sacrificial arena on fire, he then departed for Kailāsa. Guhyakālayam means Kailāsa. Thus ends the commentary on the Fifth Chapter of the Fourth Canto of the Bhāgavatam for the pleasure of the devotees, in accordance with the previous ācāryas. Chapter Six The Devatās Approach Śiva 4.6: Brahmā Satisfies Lord Śiva 6. Brahmā Satisfies Lord Śiva
Vīrabhadra offered Dakṣa's head into the southern fire and burned the arena before returning home — the offering meant for the demigods became Dakṣa himself. Be careful what sacrifice you arrange; you may end up on the altar.
Reflection Questions
  • What sacrifice am I currently arranging that could turn back upon me as the offering?
  • Where is my own head being prepared for an altar I built?
